Happy Feet Show and Tell
I have had problems with sore feet on long rides for years. I had numb toes for a month after my ride to Fargo a couple of years ago. Even with platform pedals and cushioned running shoes I have to stop every 30 miles or so to take the pressure of my feet.
With foot pain in mind, I borrowed Jared's Sidi Genius 5 shoes last year when I did the Ironman century. They were outstanding. I never had to think about my feet. I am signing up for the Ironman again this year, so I just put an order in for these shoes. $170 from Performance. Cheapest I've found in my size. Comfortable feet are worth alot.

I have struggled with toe numbness for a while. I have monkeyed with cleat position and switched shoes. The pair of Adidas I got helped quite a bit, but thew problem still pops up after a while. That being said, I've been thinking about new shoes as well. But I am leaning more along the lines of $85 Specialized shoes to replace my $50 Adidas that are starting to fall apart. The Specs have a fancy pants insole that is specifically designed to alleviate numbness problems.
comfy feet are worth a lot.
I think SIDIs are totally worth it. They wear-into your feet like a Brooks wears into your ass - a perfect custom fit. -and they last just as long too. I'll never purchase a different kind of cycling-specific shoe ever again. True.
I'd get the mountain version though personally...
